How seasonal rhythms impact your energy—and one grounding practice to help you recalibrate

Earlier this month, I had a moment that stopped me in my tracks—literally.

I was sitting in my car, parked in the driveway, engine off. It was late afternoon, and I had just wrapped up a whirlwind day of client calls, errands, and a last-minute trip to court. Inside the house, the sounds of summer chaos were already rising: hungry kids, the whirr of the air conditioner, dinner prep waiting.

But I didn’t get out.

I sat still. Hands in my lap. Not planning. Not scrolling. Just breathing.

And in that pause, I felt it: the low hum of nervous system overload. I wasn’t broken. I wasn’t failing. I had just overridden myself for too long.

Why Your Nervous System Feels Off in the Summer

If you’re a high-achieving woman—especially one who’s ever worked in law, entrepreneurship, or any role that demands high output—you’re likely no stranger to “pushing through.” It’s a survival tactic we’ve learned well.

But here’s the truth: Your nervous system is not a machine. It’s a living, responsive system attuned to your environment, relationships, and pace of life. And summer? It brings a unique set of stressors.

Longer days can trick us into staying “on” longer, delaying rest.
School breaks often mean juggling more responsibilities at home.
Social pressure to make the most of the season can feel exhausting.
Instead of slowing down with the season, many of us ramp up—and our nervous systems bear the cost.

When we ignore our physical cues (fatigue, irritability, tight shoulders, racing thoughts), we drift into dysregulation. That’s when small stressors feel huge and rest feels impossible.

A 3-Minute Grounding Practice for Overwhelm

Here’s a simple way to reset when your nervous system feels maxed out. It takes just three minutes and no special tools—just a willingness to pause.

🌿 3-Minute Grounding Practice:

1) Feel your seat. Sit down and notice where your body connects with the chair or floor. Let your weight sink in.
2) Breathe deeply. Take three slow, full breaths—in through your nose, out through your mouth. Let each exhale be a tiny release.
3) Anchor in the moment. Name three things you can feel, hear, or smell. This brings your mind back to now.

This isn’t about escaping your stress—it’s about re-entering your body with compassion.

You Deserve to Move with the Season

Nature doesn’t bloom year-round. Neither should we.

As you move through this season, ask yourself gently: Where can I honor my rhythms more? What would 5% more softness look like this week?

You don’t need a full-on retreat to recalibrate. Sometimes, all it takes is three minutes, a quiet breath, and the courage to not push through.
