The Burnout Cycle Field Guide

— My Story

For more than two decades, I built a career the way high achievers are taught to: say yes, work harder, don’t complain. As an attorney handling family law and guardianship cases, I sat across from people on the worst days of their lives and was expected to stay composed, capable, and available — while also raising six kids, building a law firm, and saying yes to every committee that asked. For a long time I wore the exhaustion like a badge of honor. I mistook being tired for evidence that I was doing my job right.

— The Day Everything Changed

At some point, “pushing through” stopped working. I was depressed, burntout, and using very unhealthy coping strategies that were just making things worse.

Then…I started asking a question most driven professionals never let themselves ask: what would it actually look like to thrive, not just survive, in this career and this life? That question sent me back to school — not for another law credential, but to understand the actual science of energy, stress, and resilience. Between 2020 and 2022 I trained and certified in iPEC’s Core Energy Coaching process (COR.E Wellbeing, Transitions, and Leadership Dynamics), and in transformational nutrition and the psychology of eating.

I built what became the foundation of the Zoesana Method: a five-step path from awareness, to uncovering the roots of burnout, to rebuilding energy, to leading differently, to sustaining it for good. I used it on myself first.

— Fast Forward to Today

Today I run Rachelle Marie Coaching & Consulting, where I help women lawyers move from exhaustion to inspiration using the Zoesana Method™ — a blend of positive psychology, energy leadership, and holistic mind-body-spirit work.

I’m also a doctoral student in Antioch University’s PhD program in Leadership and Change, where my research looks at how women lawyers and professionals can “burn bright” instead of burning out. I still practice law, still mediate, and still show up for my community — because I didn’t leave my old life behind to build this work. I learned how to live it without it costing me everything.

What Makes Me Different from the Rest?

Lived It, Not Just Studied It

I’m not a coach who read about burnout — I practiced law for over 20 years while raising six kids and running a firm. I built the Zoesana Method™ using myself as the first case study.

Backed by Research, Not Just Instinct

As a doctoral student studying thriving post-burnout at Antioch University, my methods are grounded in real research, not just a personal philosophy — you get rigor along with heart.

Built for Real Practices and Real Lives

My approach isn’t a wellness routine designed for someone with a 9-to-5. It’s built around the reality of high-stakes work, tight calendars, and a life that doesn’t pause for self-care.

— Fun Facts

I live in Washington State with my husband, our six kids, and a grandbaby who already runs the house. (We also have a pet turtle, for the record.) When I’m not coaching, practicing law, or working on my dissertation, you’ll find me riding my bike, golfing, knitting, painting, reading, or just plain studying something new — I’m a lifelong student at heart. I’ve been a Rotarian since 2008, and after 20+ years in Skagit County, I’ve never met a nonprofit board I could say no to.

Corporate Professional
Rachelle is engaging, she is great at working with me to really define my goals, at reframing and keeping the session on track. I left every session with a clear, realistic commitment that I wanted to be accountable for. Rachelle is a great coach, period, however I really noticed just how efficient she is at running a coaching session. To enable me to really walk away with outcomes that had a lot of meaning for me. A real skill. Rachelle is a great coach who enables me to get to the heart of the matter through short, laser focused questions period she is continually aware to create a container for the session where I can feel safe to explore... where I know I can trust her to bring me back to what truly matters to me and hold me accountable to that.
